Libraries and the Construction of Knowledge About the Malay World; An ATMA and IKON International Colloquium
2 August 2004
This Colloquium which is jointly organised by the Institut Alam Dan Tamadun Melayu and the Institut Kajian Oksidental will be held at the Dewan Pusat Kembangan Pendidikan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi, Selangor from 2-3 August 2004.

The central theme of this Colloquium is the development and the role of library collections related to the Malay World, as well as descriptions of the breadth and characteristics of the contemporary collections. The Colloquium is part of a larger series of colloquia exploring the construction of knowledge about the Malay World.

This colloquium offers the opportunity to look at the diverse ways in which collections of Malay World materials were developed. Some collections began at the beginning of the colonial era 500 years ago; others sprang up late in the twentieth century. What were the motivations and mechanisms that lay behind the collections and how have the materials been classified and organised.
