State-run libraries are all too quiet

With 1.54 million books and 1.3 million newspapers in its Jakarta collection, the National Library has more than enough on offer to keep the city’s 12 million residents interested. However, its facilities are vastly underused: less than 15,000 people visited the library last year, and even fewer took out books.

 
New decree lays down rules for privately-owned libraries

Privately owned libraries can access book transfers from State-owned counterparts under a Government decree that provides the framework for their operations.

 
Pay up fines or no books

If you haven't paid up the fines you owe the National Library Board, do it soon. From April, members with unpaid library fines and fees will not be allowed to borrow until they have settled the outstanding amount. This means borrowers can no longer accumulate unpaid library fines and fees, the National Library Board (NLB) said on Thursday.

P500-M worth of donations generated for library hubs

An estimated P500 million worth of donations in the form of infrastructure materials, furniture, computers and additional books were generated by the Department of Education (DepEd) for the 70 Library Hubs all throughout the country.
